The general Carleton shipwreck is a recently published volume presenting the results of underwater excavations carried out between 1995 and 1999 on shipwreck W-32. W-32 is being identified as the remains of the British vessel General Carleton, which was built in Whitby and sunk in 1785 near the mouth of the River Piaśnica. The excavation has been caried out by the Department of Underwater Archaeology of the Polish Maritime Museum in Gdańsk.
The assemblage of valuable, and often unique, maritime artefacts salvaged from this wreck formed the basis for undertaking a wide-ranging study on subjects such as the history of sailing and shipbuilding, as well as material culture and daily life aboard a ship in the 18th century.
The publication incorporates 17 detailed reports prepared by researchers from Poland and abroad (USA and England) and a catalogue presenting all of the finds recovered from the wreck.
The volume bilingual published in Polish-English version.
